Tunga institute is pleased to announce the forthcoming publication of the Tunga Catalogue Raisonné.
The publication, which is organized by specialist Christina Gabaglia Penna, will document all of the artist's two-dimensional works, including drawings, photographs, prints, and works on fabric. The catalogue will also feature texts by specialists and the "Tungian Glossary," a list of expressions, elements, and themes that help to define the artist's work.
The catalogue raisonné will be published in volumes by the renowned publisher Cahiers d’Art Institute in a bilingual, online, free, and accessible format.
“The work of cataloguing requires an in-depth detailing of each work: with identification number, title, date, dimensions, medium and support, signature, stamp, inscriptions, description, history, collection, localization, related bibliography, and photographic documentation,” said Penna. “To achieve this, we crossed-referenced information from our library, archive, and museology sector. The result is a rich resource for study, with a complete check of the source and provenance of each work.”
With this catalogue, Tunga will join the short list of Brazilian artists who have been the subject of a catalogue raisonné, including Tarsila do Amaral, Candido Portinari, Iberê Camargo, Eliseu Visconti, and Leonilson.

Certification
As part of its work on the catalogue, Tunga Institute has begun a process of providing certification of two-dimensional artworks by the artist, through a rigorous identification and research process and, when necessary, examination by a committee of experts.
This committee, known as the Consultative Commission, consists of Everardo Miranda, Paulo Venancio Filho, and Waltercio Caldas, all of whom had a long relationship with the artist and followed his extensive production.
The Catalogue Raisonné will be digital and allows for updates. Therefore, collectors interested in including works in the publication can contact the Institute: cr@institutotunga.com.
